Anna Frozen Cape Tutorial

You will need

2 yards of cape fabric (I got really lucky and found 2 yards of a poly wool blend in the sale bin at Joann’s, it was normally $20/yd but I got it for $3!) Some people have also used fleece instead of wool

1 yard of burgundy fleece (I got mine from Joann’s)

Pink fabric paint (I used Tulip in Azalea)

Pom- Pom Trim (I ended up making my own and I have instructions on how to do that at the end of this tutorial)

1 silver clasp (the link for the one I used is below)

www.amazon.com/Hearts-Cloak-Cl…

Peel and Stick permanent fabric tape (this is just double sided tape for fabric)

Fabric glue (to stick down the points of the trim design)

To start I modified this pattern to make the top layer of the cape

sewveravenus.files.wordpress.c…

You will need to make each of the pattern pieces longer and alter the front shape to resemble Anna’s. I highly recommend getting some muslin to make a mock-up of this before cutting your nice fabric (I had to make 2 versions before I was satisfied with the shape). Also, realize that the pattern pieces are really small, so I needed to blow them up before I could use them. You will also use a mandarin collar (like we did with the shirt) rather than the one provided in the pattern.

I drafted the pattern for the lower cape myself, but if you already have a cape pattern you can use that to guide you. The best way to describe mine is “petal-shaped.” Once you get the 2 layers of the cape the shape you want sew them together at the collar and attach a mandarin collar (there are tutorials for this online). You will then need to make a pattern for your trim. This is the fun part where you get to go hunting all over your house for various circles until you find the perfect one, mine ended up being a bottle of lotion and water bottle:P Then trace your pattern onto your fleece and cut it out. Unfortunately I thought I would be able to use the inner piece of the scallop design for the half circles but they ended up not being quite the right shape, so I had to make a pattern for the half circles separately. You will then lay out your trim on a table and peel off one side of the fabric tape and lay it along the full length of your trim. Then slowly peel off the paper and lay your trim on the cape. Pressing firmly every inch you go. I ended up needing to use fabric glue to tack down the points, but the fabric tape made everything so much less messy! I then used fabric glue to attach the half circles and after they dried, painted them with the azalea fabric paint. next step is to attach your homemade or pre-made pom-pom trim along the edge of the top cape layer. Then the last step is attaching your clasp then you are finished!!!! Please let me know if anything is unclear and Happy Sewing!

To make your own pom-pom trim you will need

(I purchased all of these items from Joann’s)

2 packages of white pom-poms

1 can Simply Spray Fabric Spray paint in Cranberry

Embroidery Floss in the same color as your trim

About 1-1.5 yards (however much you need to wrap around your mini cape) of lace in a similar color to your cape fabric (this is what I sewed my pom-poms onto)

1 bucket that you don’t mind destroying with paint

Start by placing a layer of pom-poms in the bottom of your bucket and spraying them with a fine mist of the fabric paint. Wait for them to dry and then flip/roll then to the other side. Repeat this until they are all covered in fabric paint. The you will lay out your lace (I found it easiest to pin the lace to a shoe box to keep it steady) and then sew your pom-poms onto the lace with the embroidery floss. Then sew your trim onto the cape!

Heya! I clicked on the pattern link, but it said Access Denied and wouldn't let me look at it! Is there any way I can get it? Many Thanks!
